In the All
Area* interview, Burke describes the ghost-writing he did for Colonel
Arthur Woods on the Dangerous Drugs project:
"This is
the early thirties, right?"
"Just
about that time. I even wrote fantasies of super-Hitlerite villains, all
kinds of stuff. Some of it turns up once in a while, but most of it's
vanished. Maybe it's in the FBI files for all I know. That was such a
crazy period. You thought you were going crazy anyhow, and I damn near
was. You never knew what's natural and what isn't natural."--KB
*"Counter-Gridlock:
An Interview with Kenneth Burke." All Area, no. 2 (1983): 6-33.
Todd
Deam is the project coordinator who acquired Burke's FBI Files and
transcribed the documents. To
provide some context for interpreting these documents, David
Blakesley has written running commentary to accompany each of them.
You will see that commentary next to each individual document throughout
the collection.
