Resurrect the Blog
This article is interesting - concerning how Apache children went to see the movie "The Missing" and there is a new revival of interest in their native language. Interesting how the medium of movies can be used to entice teenagers and children to keep a bit of their culture. Who knows if they will really follow through with it.

It's What's on My Mind, Anyway
Hey everyone...I'm sure you're all in quite the same position as me now in terms of thinking about final projects. Here's a little overview of what I'm doing: basically, I'm developing my course eBook and Website (and thus the course itself) for ENGL419: Multimedia Writing. As I began the early stages of this process, I did what I suspect many of us as teachers often do when embarking on a new course: I surfed the Web, looking for sample multimedia writing syllabi.
What I realized (and forgive my slowness) was that syllabi and other supporting class materials posted to the Web serve a dual purpose. First and foremost, of course, we are interested in delivering materials, assignments, etc. to our students. Duh. But second, there is at least potentially a shadow audience of instructors out there who are interested in improving or starting their own courses.
It is partyly with this second, shadow audience in mind that I'm beginning my project. Specifically with the Annotated Bibliography assingnment in here, I'm probing materials that would both be of value to students in a multimedia course, AND to other instructors (myself included) who are trying to plan and develop a theoretically and practically sound course in multimedia writing.
As I'm envisioning my course site for 419 (which in my mind must be better and more involved than anything I've ever designed before) I'm planning on including a For Instructors link, which will take instructors (and probably curious students, too) to materials like the annotated bibliography.

So here's my big question I'd love for as many of you to respond to as possible, either on here or via email: If you were planning on teaching a course in multimedia writing OR were looking to add more multimedia components to, say, an introductory composition course, what would you want to know? What kinds of materials would you want access to? How would you want them presented?

Looking forward to hearing from you--and I promise to re-earn my keep on this Blog by posting more frequently than, say, once every two years.

Me Again
I could not help but post this article. It is from my undergrad university e-letter. The article talks about a couple's experience with inter-state commerce and issues of space - asking the question "Where is the sale taking place?" The article mentions Wiener (my favorite guy).

Wireless Integration: A New Kind of Computer Lab

I found this article on wireless computer labs. It is interesting considering our recent discussions of space. A point I had not considered before - with campuses going wireless and more students carrying laptops, pocket PCs, Palms any class turns into a computer lab.

Nanotech: The European Commission Website
Another good source of info for those of us who are not familiar with nanotechnology. It seems what this technology will bring, i.e., the ability to manipulate the structure of matter-- the CONTROL, is really unprecedented in human history.

Can we talk about nanotechnology
I have to say it is hard for me to understand the novel without much knowledge of nanotechnology. I wonder whether we can talk about this briefly in class. The Foresight Institute link may be a good place to start with.
