This program develops students as problem seekers with the capability to plan communication strategies and form effective visual products.

The curriculum is structured to prepare students for a profession that is evolving rapidly influenced by computer technology advances. Students are encouraged to master the technical skills involved in typography, image generation, visual structure, and composition as well as to think conceptually, articulate ideas, and critically evaluate the form making process.

During the sophomore year, emphasis is on form, color, typography, development of illustration skills, and analytical techniques that aid in the visualization of ideas. Junior and senior assignments prepare students for the design profession. Projects include logos, folders, books, posters, corporate identity systems, environmental graphic design, and packages.

With a broad background and thorough understanding of both medium and message, graduates are well qualified for positions in design offices, advertising agencies, and corporations.

Students interested in visual communication design combine words, ideas, and images in original ways to convey information and promote ideas to targeted audiences.
