Graduate Certificate in ESL

Degree Offered: Graduate certificate in ESL.

Length of Program: 5 years maximum. Students may be full-time or part-time and may begin the program at the beginning of any semester. Beginning in fall semester is recommended.

Program Requirements: 15 hours. Competence in a language other than English is not required. Neither practice teaching, nor a thesis, nor a comprehensive examination is required. Students must attain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of B for any course applied to the certificate.

Admission Requirements: The University requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, a minimum GPA of 3.0 with the possibility of conditional admission for applicants who do not meet this requirement, and, for applicants whose native language is not English, a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based).

General: Degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students are eligible for the program. Students may complete the certificate independently of their field of study and need not be registered in an MA or PhD program. The program can be completed on a full- or part-time basis.
