VITA
Bob
Novak is currently the director of clinical education
in audiology and clinical professor in the Department
of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) at Purdue University.
He received his Master's and Ph.D. in audiology at the
University of Iowa, was on faculty at San Diego State
University for 17 years, on faculty at the University
of Virginia for 6 years, and joined the faculty at Purdue
University in 2000. He has been in a variety of administrative
roles (department chair/clinic director) while always
teaching in the classroom as well as in various clinical
settings throughout his 24 years in university settings.
His major teaching, clinical and research interests
have been in various areas of hearing amplification,
aural rehabilitation and educational audiology. He has
had a particular interest in linking the audiology profession
with the school of nursing and pediatric/family nurse practitioner
professions in the delivery of more effective hearing
health care services to children. He is an active member
of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association,
and currently serves as a Council on Academic Accreditation
site visitor. Since his arrival at Purdue University,
he has been working with the SLHS faculty/staff and the
faculty of the IU Medical Center to develop a joint
clinical doctoral degree (Au.D.),
financial support for the audiology programs and joint
clinical service and research projects. He has also
been working with the SLHS faculty and staff to further
develop the community engagement and service learning
opportunities of the Purdue clinical programs. He established
the M.D. Steer Speech and Hearing Clinic Advisory Board
and the Purdue University Audiology Program Advisory
Board as resources to facilitate the ongoing development
of the Purdue Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Department.
